Let’s start this off with some tips on how to ace your interview. So, you’ve been short-listed amongst other applicants and the HR manager has contacted you to schedule an interview with your potential employer. That’s great news! At the same time, we understand you may be feeling slightly nervous. We spoke to the CEO of globeit.in and asked for his advice.
The first thing you have to keep in mind is to be yourself. Although employers are looking for the right candidates who have the required skills and abilities for the job opening in question, just remember they are looking for people, not robots. Let’s illustrate this in an example.
We’ve got two individuals – we’ll call them John and Jane. Both of them have applied for the same job and have successfully made it to the interview stage. John is more qualified than Jane, however, the employer seems more interested in what Jane can bring to the table due to the fact that she seems to be more of a team player and with the right training, her career will flourish with said company.
In short, you have to be able to offer something that stands out, rather than just your job skills. Remember, you’re not the only person who’s applying for the job. Just keep in mind that you’ve been short-listed for a reason, so don’t disappoint.
It’s also a good idea to do some research about the company. Truthfully, it’s not a good look if a potential employer asks you something along the lines of what you know about the company or what made you apply for the job, and you can’t think of anything to say. Bottom line – get to know the company before stepping into the interview room.
Graduates – we’re looking at you here. So, you’ve read for a degree, completed it, and you are finally at the stage of landing the job of your dreams. Some of you go on to be doctors, teachers, copywriters, software developers, graphic designers…in other words, you’ve made it!
The next step is finding the ideal job that allows you to do what you’ve worked so hard for. You may be thinking ‘but I don’t have 3 years’ experience in the field’. We understand that it may be difficult for some graduates to land a job as soon as they finish their college years. However, don’t be discouraged; you’ll find loads of employers who specifically post jobs that are catered towards graduates.
Things may take some time, but keep trying. Sometimes, all you need to do is show that you are willing to work hard and take all the necessary training that will allow you to do a good job. What we’re trying to say that some employers take everything into consideration; the skills, a person’s values and if the interested applicant is willing to go the distance.
So, you’ve decided to take the plunge, and you’re on the lookout for a new job. Super! However, you’re not sure how you’re going to create a new résumé/update an existing one. We’ve got two words for this one: SELL YOURSELF. Regardless if you’ve just dipped your toes in the world of work, or whether you’re exploring more options, you need to make a statement.
From our experience in the field, we’ve seen a number of CVs that sadly didn’t make the cut due to a number of reasons. Seeing as they have to go through several applications, employers don’t appreciate a never ending résumé that doesn’t attract their attention.
Bottom line – get creative. Don’t just download the template that everybody uses. If you have the skills to create one yourself, go for it. If not, get someone to help you create THE résumé that will land you the job.
Especially if you haven’t updated your résumé in a while, be sure to go through it prior to applying for a job. Let’s be honest here; if you’re an experienced data analyst, nobody is going to care about the summer job you did when you were 16 years old. We understand that you want to show off your capabilities and skills but stick to what’s relevant.
Along with creating a striking résumé, you need to add all the secret ingredients that can make all the difference in the world. Employers look for keywords such as the following: Teamwork and Collaboration, Organisational Skills, Adaptability, Critical Thinking, Problem-Solving, Professionalism, Strong Work Ethic, Leadership, Great Communication Skills etc. Simply put, don’t sell yourself short. If you want employers to believe in what you can bring to the table, you have to believe in yourself first.
Additionally, it’s a good idea to let your future employer know that you’re more than just your job. We’ve touched on this earlier when we discussed how you can smash your interview. We’re not telling you to create a fake résumé, but everyone has something special to offer to the workplace rather than just the required skills.
Of course, companies want to nurture their employees’ skills. In fact, some employers offer training courses to each and every employee working within the company. Not only does this help improve the company’s standards, but it also enhances one’s career development. In the long run, this can be beneficial for future promotions.
That said, we’ve all been in a situation where we thought a job was something that we wanted to do for the rest of our lives but in the end, it wasn’t what we imagined it to be. And that’s completely fine; remember, it’s never too late to seek another job that will ignite your interest. Loads of people have taken the plunge in the past – don’t be afraid to do so too!

Especially if you’ve just got your degree, this option may be easier for you to do since you probably don’t have any strings attached. Besides getting your work experience, you also have ample time to get to know different cultures, devour delicacies you’ve never tried before and visit places you’ve always dreamed of.
Perhaps finding work abroad is harder for someone who already has a family to take the leap. That said, it’s not impossible. There have been many successful relocation stories that have benefitted the whole family. Starting a new life somewhere else may seem overwhelming, but nonetheless exciting.
What we’re trying to say is to never limit yourself to what you know. Life was never meant to be lived in one place.
